When the Night Falls
The night was new
The sun was gone
Luna was tired
She had to yawn
When the clock chimed
She climbed the stairs
Knowing that soon
Mom would be there
And in Mom came
Wearing her robe
Looking so clean
Smelling of soap
Blankets were snugged
prayers were said
Hugs were given
It’s time for bed.
If Luna’s stars
Were shining bright
She had no fear
Of the dark night
All the nightmares
Were scared away
Sweetest of dreams
Were here to stay
When the night falls
and stars light the sky
It is time for sleep
Where dreams come alive
The bed is warm
The blankets are snug
There’s tucking in
With a big bear hug
With the flip of a switch
The lights go dim
You close your eyes
So the dreams begin
In the sky you fly
With birds of all kinds
In the trees you hang
With monkeys that climb
In the sea you swim
With fish of great size
Until it’s time to wake
and the sun will rise
Do not be sad
When you wave goodbye
For you will see them again
When it’s bedtime
Yes, they will miss you
And patiently wait
To see you again
On your next dreaming date
How’d You Know
Do you know I love you?
A momma asks her babe
I’m not sure, I think so
How’d you know, anyway?”
Is it something you see?
Is it something you feel?
Maybe it’s big or small
Or is love even real?
With a hug and a kiss
She tucks her baby in
Flipping the light, she says
Oh, where do I begin?
The lion can sing it
With roars so loud and strong
The rabbit can hear it
With ears so soft and long
The elephant drinks it
With a trunk like a hose
The honey bear smells it
With its sensitive nose
The giraffes can see it
With eyes up in the sky
But none, other than you
Can feel the love that’s mine
With a stretch and yawn
The babe says with a smile
If that’s what love feels like
Then I’ve known for a while
